Scarsdale High School

Boys' Lacrosse

Welcome to Raider Boys' Lacrosse

This spring, Scarsdale High School will field two Boys' Lacrosse teams:

  • Varsity is for the top lacrosse players, who demonstrate the strongest skills and abilities, regardless of grade-level.
  • JV is for freshmen and sophomores to develop their skills and capabilities to give them the best chance to move up to the Varsity level.
  • Varsity Coach:  James Synowiez, jsynowiez@scarsdaleschools.org

Varsity Assistant Coach:  John Felix, jfelix@scarsdaleschools.org

Varsity Assistant Coach:  Kevin Blake, kblake@scarsdaleschools.org

    Varsity Volunteer:  Paul Lamonaca, plamonaca@scarsdaleschools.org

JV Head Coach:  Bryan Bagala, bbagala@scarsdaleschools.org

JV Assistant Coach:  Ryan Bonifati, rbonifati@scarsdaleschools.org

  • In order to tryout, players must have been cleared through the gold card process.

Tryouts will take place at Scarsdale High School, either on the turf or in the High School Gyms. Times will be determined by field availability and weather conditions.

Each player must have a mouth guard, water bottle, and proper lacrosse equipment.

Players are expected to be present at all tryout sessions.  Missing sessions will be incorporated into the coach's evaluation of players for the Varsity team.

Tryouts consist of assessments of individual lacrosse skills.  Players will be evaluated based upon a rubric encompassing the following: Physical-footwork, coordination, balance and speed.  Technical-throwing/catching, dodging, shooting and scooping.  Tactical-Lax IQ, field sense and movement without the ball.  Psychological-effort, attitude and coachability.

The coaching staff also tests the athletes for general athleticism.

Players are also evaluated on their cooperation with other players and their ability to take direction from the coaching staff.

  • Boys' Lacrosse is a commitment of about 2-2.5 hours per day, 6 days a week and occasional Saturday games and competitions.  It is our expectation that athletes will be present for all team tryouts, scrimmages, practices, games and tournaments.

The regular season ends in late May for both teams. Varsity is then eligible for post-season play.
