Scarsdale High School

Alternative School (SAS)

Welcome to the Scarsdale Alternative School!

The Scarsdale Alternative School (SAS) was created in 1972 by students, teachers, and administrators as an experimental program within Scarsdale High School. The SAS community consists of five full-time faculty, one secretary, and 82 students, including sophomores, juniors and seniors. While many other “alternative school” programs today serve at-risk student populations, SAS was created by and for mainstream high school students who wanted more of a voice in their education.

We will be introducing the program to ninth-graders in their English classes on Tuesday, January 20. Below are additional informational meetings:

Student Interest Meetings

  • Wednesday, January 21, during common lunch in room 1N4/6
  • Wednesday, January 21, during 7th period in room 1N4/6
  • Tuesday, January 27, during common lunch in room 1N4/6
  • Parent/Guardian Information Night Wednesday, January 28, at 7 p.m. in  room 1N4/6, open to both parents/guardians and students. This meeting will be recorded.
  • A-School Community Meeting Wednesday, February 11, during 7th period in room 1N4/6

Enrollment in the A-School is administered through a lottery. Students are required to have attended one additional informational meeting in order to submit their name in the lottery. Please see the dates and times of the three options above. Attending more than one meeting does not increase an applicant's chance in the lottery. In addition, students need to use their Scarsdale school account to complete the form. The application will go live on Wednesday, January 21, at 3 p.m. and will close on Friday, February 13, at 2 p.m.
