Join the Scarsdale GRACE Initiative!

Scarsdale GRACE is a community effort to strengthen respectful dialogue, constructive accountability, compassion, empathy, and community connection. Several events this past spring reminded us that caring for a community also means being thoughtful about how we treat one another, particularly in moments of disagreement or tension. GRACE is about strengthening how we navigate those moments and invites you to participate in their Community Conversations and community survey.

The Gift of Failure - Virtual Event 11/18 @ 7 PM

K.N.O.W.2PREVENT is hosting a virtual event on 11/18 @ 7 PM featuring Jessica Lahey, educator & NY Times best-selling author of The Gift of Failure & The Addiction Inoculation. The event is focused on how kids learn from mistakes, develop competence, and resist substance use. Doing too much for our kids—even with the best intentions—can undermine their motivation, confidence, and resilience. Research shows that children who develop a strong sense of competence and self-efficacy are also less likely to turn to alcohol or drugs to cope with difficult emotions. Veteran teacher, bestselling author, and substance use prevention expert Jessica Lahey explores how stepping back and allowing kids to navigate challenges builds the skills they need to thrive. Drawing on research and real-world experience, Jess offers parents practical strategies to raise confident, resilient, independent young people who are better equipped to make healthy choices. Register here.

Micha Archer Works with Scarsdale Teachers

Award-winning author and illustrator Micha Archer spent the day in Scarsdale on Tuesday working with our elementary teachers and our K-12 art teachers. In the morning, she discussed her journey from teacher to artist and author, and how creativity and exploration can fuel student engagement and joy. She then led our art teachers in a collaborative workshop focused on collage techniques. Both sessions drew inspiration from her many books including Wonder Walkers, in which curious children ask imaginative, philosophical questions about the world around them.
