The Friday Five - August 21, 2026

The start of the 2026-27 school year is just around the corner! We are excited to warmly welcome both our new and returning students and families on September 1st. For those new to our community, the Friday Five is shared weekly on Friday afternoon, and includes important information and showcases some of the great things happening in Scarsdale. We select 5 bite-size items each week to emphasize. The messages also get posted to our Facebook page and to our District Updates webpage. However, the best way to keep up with the Friday Five is to download the ParentSquare app!

The 2026-27 School Calendar can be found here, or by visiting our Calendars page. The Scarsdale Community Calendar is also a great resource to see the events and activities happening across our schools throughout the year. Below are a few important upcoming dates.

The Board of Education will meet on Monday to conduct important business prior to the start of the year, including a public hearing on the District Safety Plan, and the appointment of a several new faculty and staff. The Guidelines for Student Expression for those participating in certain school-sponsored activities will also be discussed, along with a number of policy updates. As a reminder, Board meeting agendas are typically posted on the Friday afternoon prior to a Monday meeting. Members of the public can attend meetings in person at Scarsdale High School in Rooms 170-172, or via livestream.

Scarsdale Public Schools uses a platform called ParentSquare to send school-to-home and District-to-home communications, including mass notification messages (i.e., emergency notifications, school delays or cancellations, etc.), as well as certain general notifications (i.e., The Friday Five, Board meeting Notices and Highlights, etc.). While these messages can arrive via text and email, they are also optimized for use with the ParentSquare App on your phone, where you can also change your preferences.

By default, all of our parents and caregivers are registered to receive email daily digests after 6pm. If you would like to update your preferences to receive text or app notifications, please use the two sets of instructions below.

A new law, Education Law section 926 that became effective on July 1, 2026, requires school districts to provide information on water safety to parents/guardians. Specifically, the law requires school districts to provide information at the beginning of the 2026-2027 school year to parents/guardians regarding the following:
