FitnessGram

The Cooper Institute developed FitnessGram in an effort to provide physical educators with a tool that would communicate fitness testing results to students and to parents. The fitness assessment measures five components of health-related physical fitness that are important to an individual’s overall health and body function. This includes aerobic capacity, body composition, muscular strength, muscular endurance, and flexibility.

FitnessGram is a health-related fitness assessment that uses criterion-referenced standards, called Healthy Fitness Zones, to determine students' fitness levels based on what is optimal for good health.  These standards have been set for boys and for girls based on age. The use of health-related criteria helps to minimize comparisons between children and to emphasize personal fitness for health rather than goals based solely on performance.

2025-2026 FitnessGram Dates:
Students in grades 9-10 will complete the annual FitnessGram test in June 2026.  The annual FitnessGram test is a qualifying exam that is required for any student who wishes to apply for PE credit through athletic participation in any of the four quarters next school year.   Testing opportunities are limited to these specific times and will not be offered again until June 2026.

Make-Up FitnessGram:
For students who were unable to test in the spring due to medical reasons, please see your PE teacher who administered your FitnessGram this past spring.  For students who are new to SHS, please see your current PE teacher.
